This weeks assignment I got to choose what I would like to do again. I wanted to try my hand at creating a 3D object, I found a tutorial online that used a phone as a vantage point and so I decided to try it out. I used the same image as the tutorial for the base but I wanted to challenge myself to see if I could make something else work. I decided on a lighthouse, The tutorial was really well done but each time I use one I find myself constantly pausing and going back to see how and why they did certain things. It amazes me what the color adjustments can do for images, when I began playing with the different levels I could see how making the light shift creates effects that otherwise would be unseen.
To create this image I combined two images using layer masks, smart filters and color balancing. Cutting out the images was not two difficult as there were only a few items that extended beyond the screen. The trouble I had was in creating the lighting effect, on the original image the sun was on the right and shadows on the left but I wanted to turn that around so I needed to create shadows where there were none as well as light where there wasn't any. I also created a shadow from the phone to create more of an illusion effect.
