This week we were told to use patterns in our design. One of the assignments we had has to create a pattern to share with our class and as I was creating mine I found a bunch of different ways I could use the image I was working on. One of the things I did once I got everything to match up and colored right was to change one of my layers to the difference, which created a really cool effect with the sand. I created a pattern out of this and used that pattern to to overlay the wood which made it look like it had been burned in a peculiar way. I felt that this turned out really good.
Creating the sand and wood effect was a fun and enlightening project on layers and patterns. For the rest of my image I wanted to do something that was a little dark and similar to a tutorial I saw. I used some of the aspect to help create my model but otherwise it was me playing around until I got the right feel. I used a spiral shape to create the circle effect by flipping and adjusting the shape, then I was able to put gradients on them. I also put one in her eye to tie in the hypnotic stare the model had. The model was a process to get the colors right as well as putting the dark makeup on her. Once I finished with all of the minor adjustments I duplicated the layer and added a texture to her to make it look grainy and lowered the opacity and used the layer mask to reveal her lips and eye. The filmstrip was used because my model was missing the top of her head and I didn't want her filling the whole screen so I added the border to fill in a little and create a different feel.
